Problems with wl-copy or clipboards in general... works fine in Sway, what am I doing wrong?

Hello there!

I have the following problem that plagues my otherwise smooth usage of Niri and makes it very cumbersome to do work in it:

I can't copy passwords from passwordstore to e.g. chrome

In sway I do

pass my/store/password -c

and it's then in the clipboard and I can use it in any application, no matter if it's xorg or wayland.

But in niri I can't for the life of it paste it in chromium (or anywhere for that matter)

I can actually only use it in the very same terminal.

E.g. if I get my ssh passwords, I can do that in the same wezterm process/window and then paste it to ssh-add. But I can't copy and do it on another wezterm window.

It's driving me nuts.
I know under Linux there are multiple clipboards, but I can't seem to find what I configured differently in sway (which I used for many years only to fall in love with niri)

Any ideas?

Looks like pass might not be using wl-copy at all. Try setting this environment variable to see if it helps: PASSWORD_STORE_X_SELECTION=clipboard

Interesting, I don't need this for sway and even if I do

| wl-copy

it doesn't work to copy into chromium... maybe it starts in xsatellite?! Need to check :(

When I start niri sometimes I can copy into and from chromium (arch, not chrome!)

Later that day it doesn't work anymore.

On sway I never have this problem.

Where can I even begin to investigate this strange behaviour?

The same happens for some apps like IntelliJ or sublime text.

And I can't copy between different wezterm instances.

I never have this problem in sway.

Today I installed sway again just because I had a presentation and needed both chromium and intellij...

I love niri so much, but this is super annoying and I am out of ideas how to debug it...

These all sound like X11 apps, maybe a bug in xwayland-satellite? There's been some clipboard-related fixes lately: https://github.com/Supreeeme/xwayland-satellite/commits/main/

Idk about this. I just tried myself and indeed it looks like I can only paste into a different WezTerm instance only after I pasted into some other application.

Could investigate with WAYLAND_DEBUG=1 what it's doing, but honestly given WezTerm's Wayland track record, I expect it's an issue on their end that just happens to work on sway.

Hm, I tried https://github.com/raphamorim/rio instead of wezterm now. Same result. I'll try alacritty and ghostty next.

I also switched to xwayland-satellite-git and configured chromium's ozone to auto, so it should run in wayland now.
