Setup a path to follow for the source of software

The title makes little sense but what i meant

For App installs

1. NATIVE packages when they are there
2. (Arch) if needed do i trust the AUR? do I go with a Flatpak when I can even if the AUR has something?
3. (openSUSE/Fedora) like the AUR with arch's base .... how do i handle packman (repo) or rpmfusion? ... do I trust them (/more than say a flatpak)?
4. how do i handle snaps? (not 100% against them myself but i am not a fan of every app that use to be native in Ubuntu's base becoming a snap only ... especially the MOST COMMON apps)
5. (openSUSE/Fedora) like the AUR with arch's base .... how do i handle pacman (repo) or rpmfusion? ... do I trust them?
6. Extracting and running tar files are fine (NOT compiling ... the tars you can extract and run the app) but this has the same issue as AppImages .. .this doesn't update
7. What about say MakeMKV ... there is a compiling option i had in my code or a flatpak.... which is "more trustworthy?" (note: the tar files for compiling come from the developer)

Overall I think

(Priority list)

1. Native
2. Third Party (so to speak) source maintained or officially mentioned by the developer ... say a PPA for instance

• Keep in mind updates .... say extracting tar archives and/or AppImages do not get updated automatically ... so they should be further down the list.
• I am debating Trust of say (I mean i do somewhat trust the source but "more than perhaps a Flatpak?") the AUR/pacman repo for OpenSUSE and/or say RPM Fusion for Fedora and the priority "hierarchy' for them

Looking at pkgbuilds in arch many apps I'd be getting the tarball for come from the source ... SO I think the AUR should be a higher priority then some things but maybe consider (down the road?) giving the user the chance to NOT use the AUR but to use a flatpak instead

i think on the RPMFusion/Packman Repo/AUR (AUR a little higher priority wise) vs Flatpak step i am just picking the former and i can always give the user the option later (which i planned to do anyway) ... just to get code "rolling"/done
