Chrome allows an extension to display a number badge on its toolbar icon, for whatever purpose it wants. I don't know if Firefox has a similar feature. I suggest implementing this to show the number of saved pages from the currently open website. (There may be better purposes for which the badge could be used, which I haven't thought of.)

Good idea!

Other possible info for badge:

  • Is current page blacklisted?
  • Tool active? (as soon as we introduce a pausing mode)
  • Unread notifications

Can be used as indications for these too

  • Something happened and extension stopped working it will show cross badge
  • It is working well then it will show a correct sign badge or a simple green dot badge
  • There are many websites these days so there may be some website that doesn't work correctly with research engine if they do then the extension will show red dot badge whenever the user encounter these websites.
  • Turn on/off badge indication.
