Description

I purposely said in the title "left sidebar" to be generic here (see this open discussion: #49837).
I am meaning the list view, and if a inserter like a block inserter or something else is open, then I am meaning this.
This issue came up in: #50017

It should be possible to always have the list view open. Especially after changing the toggle the preferences "Always open list view". Sometimes a block inserter will be "overlayed", but after closing it, the list view should be open again.

The is really no reason the left sidebar (mainly the list view) gets closed. It's essential when using the editor - the same as the "layer" panel is essential in Figma or Photoshop or the "navigator" in Elementor.

Step-by-step reproduction instructions

  1. Change the preferences.
  2. Be confused why the left sidebar isn't open yet. Reload. → List view should show up after changing the preferences to "Always open list view" #50017
  3. Open the block inserter. Click in the editor area
  4. Be confused why the list view is not open
