At the TPAC breakout session, it was proposed that to mitigate author abuse, UAs could impose limits of the creation of portals, and reflect this through an error or by rendering fallback children.

(Minutes + my memory suggests it was Matt Woodrow, AdrianHB and Peter Linss who suggested this.)

I have some doubts that authors will be prepared to handle this mode of failure, but maybe I'm overly pessimistic. Worth tracking as a spec issue in any event.

One participant (forgot his name) made a follow-up comment at the end of the session:

  • depending on how it's done and the triggers, a different behavior depending on resource usage, could be used as a cross-origin oracle.
