Adding the ability to build forks?

I stumbled across this project while trying to figure out how to build my fork.

But seeing this, I suppose it might not be straightforward, since with a fork, you generally want to refer to a branch, not a tag. And there might of course be other problematic things that I didn't discover yet too.
