Parts (Ranger Series)
This is accurate as of USI Kolonization Systems (MKS) version 1.4.1
The Ranger series is designed to be the simplest way to start a base. Most of the components are compressed for shipping and are then expanded in situ. They trade-off ease of landing with the need to ship in large amounts of 'MaterialKits' to finish them off, with the additional need of large amounts of Electric Charge for deployment. The real world analogy is the Bigelow B.E.A.M.. While the B.E.A.M contains some equipment inside, most of the useful machinery, science equipment, and life support systems must be installed once the module is inflated.
The Ranger series also includes a series of lower capability production systems such as sifters, smelters, and extractors. All of these can be attached to the Scout Landing Module or the Duna parts. These are intended to start a base on the path of self sufficiency, but have very low efficiencies compared to the larger production modules in the Tundra Series.
Most of the modules can be established as one of several different Resource Converters or Capability Multiplier. Before shipping the module, decide which converter or multiplier to use, as there is not only a cost to deploy the module, but also a cost to change the function of the multiplier.
Not all crewed modules can be crewed at launch. Some must be deployed first and have the crew transferred from another part of the base. In order for them to be deployed, they require an Engineer to go on EVA and the vessel to have specific amounts of MaterialKits
and SpecializedParts
(amounts shown in the VAB / SPH).
Crewed modules are found under the Kolonization tab in the VAB and SPH, except for the Inflatable Workshop, which is under Manufacturing.

Non-crewed modules are found under the Kolonization tab in the VAB and SPH.
Part | Name | Description | Cost | Mass (T) | Available Resources |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Ranger Anchor Hub | A small inflatable-style hub for connecting tubes - this version features landing struts, and includes a small probe core making it ideal for the starting point of a base. | 500 | 0.35 | None | |
Ranger Attachment Point | A handy attachment point for MKS 'Ranger' style parts. Allows easy positioning of small surface-attached modules (such as science equipment, etc.). Also includes supplemental battery power. | 150 | 0.15 |
ElectricCharge (1,000) |
|
Ranger Ball Hub | A small inflatable-style hub for connecting tubes | 500 | 0.25 | None | |
Ranger Battery Pack | An external battery pack for your power hungry colony operations! | 1,000 | 0.30 |
ElectricCharge (6,000) |
|
Ranger 2.5m Stack Adapter | Attach the smaller ring to the top of an MKS 'Ranger' ball hub or anchor hub. This lets you build a vertical stack MKS base off of a Tundra Multi-Truss but still fit in a 2.5 stack, and not lose the rear attachment node on the anchor / ball hub. | 200 | 0.25 | None | |
Ranger Thermal Control System | This module utilizes geothermal wells to transfer and store excess heat in a planetary surface. This module is more effective on cooler planets or during night cycles. | 750 | 0.15 | None | |
Scout 200-Power Pack | Using experimental technology, this self-contained power module can provide a steady power supply to your colony for several years, though its output will diminish over time. Not refuelable. Includes extension cords to power other nearby modules if an engineer is present. | 80,000 | 1.1463 |
ElectricCharge (1,000), EnrichedPlutonium (20) |
|
Scout Landing Module | Light, with a wide landing stance, the Scout landing module is ideal for landing your first colony modules, even on rough terrain. | 200 | 1.5 |
ElectricCharge (4,000) |
|
Ranger Inflatable Storage Module | A smaller version of the MKS ILM, suitable for storing smaller quantities of materials. This is deployed from within the vehicle. | 10,000 | 0.75 | Multiple. See table below. |
