Description

Task: Design and create sprites for more hand movement when character is in the standing still status and expand the basic set of character sprites. Update the sprites created from last sprint accordingly to resolve inconsistency issues about the size and scale of between newly sprites from this sprint and those old ones from previous sprints. Iterating sprites of the male playable character boy_01 with most up-to-date basic sprites

Feature: Character Design

With new isometric sprites added to the game in the previous sprint, basic character sprites are iterated for the thrid round with iterative design method applied. In this sprint, the main focus of sprite creation is more sprites for 'standing still' status, to make the playable character animated with slight hand/arm movements even when no actual movement commands (when characters are in the move). This will make the characters even more 'alive'. Additionally, the following sprites are also be included:

  • Raising a hand when interacting with interactable objects in game;

  • Sprites for hand waving animation when switching characters in the main menu.

After the basic set of character sprites has been expanded with all potential inconsistency issues among new sprites and old ones resolved, the sprites of the male playable character "boy_01" will be updated accordingly for the third time based on the guideline of iterative design. At the same time, aside from the set of sprites with "normal" black outline, a separate set of identical sprites will be made but with light blue outlines instead. Those sprites with light blue outline are used to indicating the character is affecting by the postive buff obtained from a can of energy drink (also with the same light blue outline). In actual game, once the effects from the energy drink is gone, the outline colour of playable characters will be switched back to black ('buffed' sprites will be replaced by 'normal' ones).

Milestones

  • Expand the basic character sprites with extra standing sprites with hand/arm movements. (Sept. 28)
  • Expand the basic character sprites with those ones for interaction with interactable objects in game. (Sept. 29)
  • Expand the basic character sprites with hand-waving ones for main menu character switching animation. (Sept. 30)
  • Fix inconsistency issues in terms of size and scale between newly created sprites and old ones from the previous sprint. (Oct. 2)
  • Update sprites for the male playable charcter boy_01 based on the most up-to-date basic charcter sprites. (Oct. 5)
  • Add shades for sprites of boy_01. (Oct. 6)
