Hi team, when trying to install the app powered with squirrel.windows, i noticed that the app got crashed at first with following logs.

Not sure whether this is related to issue #698 ?any idea will be appreciated !

I am seeing the same issue, with an electron 1.4.2 app (installer built on mac with electron-builder)

In my case the windows OS was 32bit but the electron installer was made for 64bit. I tried an NSIS based electron installer, which complained about the mismatch, then built an electron 32 bit installer, which worked out of the box.

So is squirrel windows not checking / reporting for 32bit/64bit mismatch ?

@EragonJ the message Couldn't write out staging user ID, this user probably shouldn't get beta anything could mean at least three things base on the comments in #698 :

  • It could be user rights for read/write access to the local appdata/local folder (unlikely)
  • There is an antivirus that prevents Squirrel to work in the appdata/local folder
  • A previous installation went bad, and Squirrel has a hard time deleting the previous content.

Did you try the following?

  • to disable the antivirus if any, to see if it changes something
  • to delete the %userprofile%\AppData\Local\SampleApp and %userprofile%\AppData\Local\SquirrelTemp and start from scratch, to see if it changes something.

I got the Couldn't write out staging user ID error when I tried to releasify using the actual Squirrel.sln and Update project in Debug Mode.
