For large hierarchies the tree view is overwhelming and hard to interpret when expanded.
Describe the solution you'd like
A global setting to make the view collapsed by default. NB - when I then expand a node it needs to only expand one level at a time. Otherwise I immediately encounter the same overwhelm problem (currently when I click the collapse button and expand a node all the sub-nodes expand well

There is already a setting to collapse the Tree View by default, but it was broken. I believe I've resolved the original issue now. The NB point you mention is covered by #546, so I'm gonna close this out as complete
