There are some scripts in the .utilities repo that very easily allow someone to add a new binding. The repo / script is located: https://github.com/Sitecore/Sitecore.HabitatHome.Utilities/blob/develop/XP/install/Add-SSLSiteBindingWithCertificate.ps1

I would point folks to that script. It will generate a self-signed SSL cert, create the binding(s) and add the hosts file entry in one call using SIF.
