'Defaults' connection

Hello,
what is the 'defaults' connection displayed on the dashboard?
What it do? I don't find any relation between other connections, I don't find any way to see / manage it.
I have found it in the list of sources during Kip configuration; if I select it, the displayed value is fix and wrong for some data, true for others, but I don't understand the logic.

Defaults come from either ~/.signalk/baseDeltas.json or ~/.signalk/defaults.json (depending on what server version was used when you initially installed the server).
