It really shouldn't be quite as hard to install as it is. We can at least automate downloading and unzipping, maybe setting up some accounts.

I think doing this is in a platform independent way is going to be pretty close to impossible, since we are going to have to find a way to compile Indri and possibly libSVM anyway. Maybe I should start with a shellscript instead of Python. Target Ubuntu and Fedora, which seems to account for most users anyway, and then move to Windows as necessary.
