What makes you think that a separate boot partition is not supported? DMS works in Azure and Azure images have a separate boot partition.

@rjschwei Keith and I can revisit this once he's back from vacation if we got it wrong regarding the /boot partition, we didn't realize the Azure images had a multi-boot partition and didn't think we (SUSE) were supplying images like that.

That is not the real issue. As the related bugzilla points out, the current grub migration add on file does not support lvm. We would need to add tests for lvm and then based on that handle it or the standard non lvm disk. I would need an image similar to the customers to test on. I am not sure how to modify our kiwi image descriptions to get an image like the one mentioned in this issue.
