(a) Gradual fix of #6566

As you point out, this issue is currently a partial duplicate of #6566. As I see it, there are a few options:

  • Close this issue as a duplicate of 6566 and perform the action described here as part of 6566 (assuming 6566 isn't closed as "won't do," "invalid," etc.)
  • Keep this issue open and close 6566, breaking it up into multiple issues like this one (since every issue must be about a single, actionable thing)
    • Optionally, create a new project for grouping the multiple new issues created
  • Something else (e.g., close one or both as "invalid" or "won't do" for reasons as yet unstated)

I'll wait and see whether a Qubes core dev weighs in with an opinion on this.

This one IMO makes more sense (in this case). Then, it's okay to link several PRs into that issue, if needed some iterations.
