Fixing compound_statement not to be quadratic in # of :s #314

compound_statement is quadratic in term of # of colons included in a line
This can be problematic for things like generated dictionaries.
I've made it not to be quadratic anymore.

Hi @darioush -- Thanks for the patch. What exactly are you looking to fix here? Seems like just a performance improvement?

The pull request is a bit old, so I did a rebase of it here bbefb19, but I'm seeing some of the tests fail. Would you mind taking a look?
