I am confused about how the draft/ publishing workflow is supposed to go.

When I make an update to a project, I can save that change. Once the change is saved, I can merge the associated PR.
Once the PR is merged, the changes appear in CMS and on live.

What is the purpose of the draft/ publish flow. They seem unnecessary and confusing for the content creator.

When I update the authors associated with the project, save, update to "ready" and "publish" there is no PR opened, but changes are eventually made.
