Multiple Languages mode suggests words from only one language dictionary #344
Comments
There is a very similar issue about this already: |
Thanks for your reply, and for your efforts in providing such a useful plugin to the community! Unlike #21's OP, the Joined English-French dictionary validates correct words, in both languages, it works well. But yes, further down the #21 thread, I get the same issue if a word is not validated by any language: the plugin then only lists those from the dictionary having the most suggestions, or the 1st one in the dictionary list if those suggestions are of equal number. My context - Since I often write texts that can mix both languages (a common occurrence in our countries - and I'd guess in many others whatever the selected languages), when quoting some author of the other language for instance, or when writing a bilingual/multilingual reference, then using multiple dictionaries is very useful (if not of utter importance for spell checking). The problem rises when a word isn't validated by all the selected dictionaries... Instead of comparing the number of suggestions, since it checks all dictionaries anyways, wouldn't it be feasible to simply add all the occurrences it found in all dictionaries to the suggestion list? It would then be for me to select the correct word in the correct language: since my text uses both languages, I would know which one pertains to the correct context of the multiple-language text at hand (there would be no need for the plugin to guess which language is in current use within the sentence nor about my intention in that sense). The issue about the "Add to Dictionary" user dictionary is a secondary issue, although your suggestion of choosing to which one via a sub-menu would be great: in the meantime and for a quick intermediate version, I wouldn't mind at all if the "Add to Dictionary" functionality is disabled when using multiple dictionaries (or when more than one dictionary is checked within the dictionary list). Again, thank you for your time and best regards :-) |

(note that in the sentence's context, the correct English word would be "tyranny", but since it's a French text it'd be irrelevant, and I guess that we're limited by the Hunspell library suggestions, which is not within the scope of the issue at hand).
