Thomson Easy TV - any support possible? #431

Hi everyone,

I purchased a new Thomson Easy TV 43" (Model 43FD2S13; following a SW downgrade (to enable PVR) SW Version is 1.03 (July 2023)).

This is a non-smart TV in order to keep it simple for my mother.

I have been able to export the following two files to USB (copies attached as a single ZIP - they were exported unzipped):
CHANNEL_TABLE.json
cvt_database.dat

Unfortunately, ChanSort does not seem to recognise these files/formats when trying to open either of them via "File | Open TV data file...". Am I doing something wrong? If these are not (yet?) supported, would it be possible to add support for this format?

Many thanks,
Gerald

PS: I have just registered with GitHub, and I am not a developer etc., thus pls accept my apologies if I have missed any convention applicable in this forum.

Hi Gerald,

I'm unfamiliar with this particular channel list format. While the .json file is rather straight forward, the .dat file is a lot more complicated to decypher (if even possible). I have no idea why the TV exports two files, which both contain channel and transponder data.

To support this format, I need some more information and you would have to run some experiments.

During the channel search, did you select a specific (cable TV) provider?
I'm asking because the list is pre-sorted and contains "LCN" data, which is the order defined by a cable TV provider. With many TV brands it results in random behavior when trying to reorder LCN based lists.

Does your TV allow you to swap the first two channels throught the menu?
It would be great to have one export list, then swap two channels and create another export list. I can then compare the two lists and check what changed.

In case you did NOT select a specific provider and the TV DOES allow you to change channels in the menu, you can try to import this modified list where I swapped the first two channels.

DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible for any damage this might cause. However, I quite certain that there won't be any damage. In case it doesn't work as expected, it is typically sufficient to either re-import an older list or reset the TV to factory defaults and run a new search.

Many thanks for the prompt reply, Horst. Below a few answers for now (from memory), I will need to revert more fully next week when I have access to the TV again. But maybe this helps in the meantime:

Q: "During the channel search, did you select a specific (cable TV) provider?"
A: I was not able to select a specific cable TV provider before starting the channel search, it simply said "Other". And other settings were set to "Auto". I only selected "DTV-C". However, once the search was completed and saved, and when I open the Channel editor on the TV ("Programme sorting" or similar), it showed the name of the cable provider (NetCologne).

Q: I'm asking because the list is pre-sorted and contains "LCN" data, which is the order defined by a cable TV provider. With many TV brands it results in random behavior when trying to reorder LCN based lists."
A: I could not select "LCN" when starting the search, and in the Channel Settings menu (after search completed and saved) there is a field "LCN: off" (or similar) but it is grayed out and cannot be changed.

Q: Does your TV allow you to swap the first two channels throught the menu?

A: I will check next week when back at the TV, and let you know.

A: I will also check next week

Many thanks again!
