Hi,

I tried your script for installing notes 9 in Ubuntu 13.10 64bit.
Unluckily, the installation of the fixed deb fails with the following message:

dpkg -i ibm-notes-9.0.i586-fixed.deb
dpkg: regarding ibm-notes-9.0.i586-fixed.deb containing ibm-notes,
pre-dependency problem:
ibm-notes pre-depends on libgnomeprint2.2-0
libgnomeprint2.2-0 is not installed but configs remain.

dpkg: error processing ibm-notes-9.0.i586-fixed.deb (--install):
pre-dependency problem - not installing ibm-notes
Errors were encountered while processing:
ibm-notes-9.0.i586-fixed.deb

Any suggestion?

Hi

Try this :

$ sudo dpkg --force-depends -i ibm-notes-9.0.i586-fixed.deb
$ sudo apt-get intall -f

Be sure to check what apt-get install intents to do!!!

Hi

I tried it on Ubuntu 14.04. After installation (and copying the wrapper file), the notes splash screen is up and it allows me to accept the license on a command window - but then simply crashes. I wasn't able to install the lingnomeprint2.2 libs as they aren't available for Ubuntu 14.04. Could that be the reason? In that case, is there any way out?

Regards
Arijit

I'm running ubuntu 14.04. Did you fix the deb-file using one of the fix-*.sh scripts? Yo need to do that because some packages have changed name.

Yes, I did. But it seems the new control file still has those two libraries (libgnomeprint2.2-0 and libgnomeprintui2.2.0). I downloaded and installed them separately from the ubuntu precise repository (along with a couple of things these depend on) - but it's still flaky. Sometimes, executing notes-wrapper opens up notes and I can log-in. But if I exit notes, I have to restart the machine in order to be able to open it up again - otherwise, the notes-wrapper process (and its child notes) simply dies.

Which version of Notes are you running. The 8.5.x control file might not be updates to work with newest ........ oh I just realized that you are running on 64 bit. This in itself is difficult that just sticking to 32 bit (which I do). So I can't help you much on this.

Regarding the shutdown/restart issue I can tell you that notes takes long time to shut down. Watch the process-list or maybe wait around 5-10 minuttes for the other processes to quick.

I am using Lotus 9.0.

Ok . For me the 32 bit version works out of the box after fixing the debian package.

Just a recommendation, going forward.
Maybe the FIX script and Wrapper can be enhanced to include observations made by several on Ubuntu 64-bit versions, like this:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/292008/how-to-install-lotus-9
and
http://www.aldeid.com/wiki/IBM-lotus-notes-9.0.1-debian-7.5-64-bit-wheezy (links to above too)
I see a growing need, but I cannot test myself, I have not that many available platforms for testing :-(
