A PR template for release would be helpful, such as

Release date: <DATE>
<TITLE> (Whats new in 1 sentence)

  • Add versions to changelog.md
  • Fix and update package metadata in setup.py
  • Update citation.cff
  • Lint code
  • Run tests locally
  • Run tool locally on release branch: at least the download and CSV export
  • Release on github

List should be extended by steps from RELEASE_PROCEDURE.md

@nesnoj I have moved and compressed the content of RELEASE_PROCEDURE.md to the new issue template. Did we decide to delete the RELEASE_PROCEDURE.md afterwards? I would argue for yes, so that we do not need to update our procedure in two files.
