As currently written, if I input a reference doc path with spaces or quotation marks (the way I would in the CLI), the plugin chokes and I get the following error:

Basically, D:\Dropbox\docs-vault\80 Stories\86 Shipped\pandocrefdoc.docx works but "D:\Dropbox\docs-vault\80 Stories\86 Shipped\pandocrefdoc.docx" doesn't so have to move my reference doc to root.

with directories with spaces you can't add them easily as args, since spaces just means the "arg is over" so you need the quotes, but the quotes are being ignored by the plugin.

I can confirm this. I did find a workaround for (path) spaces in plugin settings

I can confirm this too. I will try @ndegroot 's workaround as well.
