I posted some comments in the post comment and still after 3 months nothing has improved. http://blog.nuget.org/20140411/new-search-on-the-gallery.html
There's no button, link or icon to do any kind of advanced search next to the search box. Only some documentation page on some obscure page. At least put a link in the home page near the search text box to link to it.
Even after using some filters the search results are just too many.
Example: why is this search filter bringing back 558 results? I know none of the packages have 'purplemoon' in them. So now I have to wade through pages and pages of 20 results. Very frustrating. Stacoverflow.com does it right. Aren't both using Lucene for search? title:nuget title:explorer title:purplemoon
And no sorting options. All I get is 'sorted by relevance'. Relevant to what? How did you deterime the relevance? Why no sorting by number of downloads? by newest first?
This whole search thing needs polishing and be more user friendly
