I talked about the FATES parameter file workflow with Brian Dobbins and he had an interesting thought. At least in the past you could precompile the executable and save it as a binary file. Hence, if the tagging process is to create a precompiled executable, each tag would have it available for use by users -- WITHOUT having to also setup a conda environment. This might be a really good way to go to make this easier for users.
