Purpose:

Test a new formulation for the length scale of Mixed Layer Eddies (MLE) on top of 114. We expect these MLE settings will help mitigate the Southern Ocean's mixed layer depth biases (and consequent cold biases).


Description:

Clone of 114, but using a new formulation for the length scale of Mixed Layer Eddies (Bodner et al., 2023).

with the beta04 tag user_nl_clm should include the following:

This run aborted on 6/01/23 because of

@wwieder, I thought we were going to use CLM out of the box for this and 114. We should clarify this with @cecilehannay.

For some reason the sandbox used /glade/work/gmarques/cesm.sandboxes/cesm3_0_beta04 is pointing to cam6_4_032 rather than cam6_4_046, which is what it should be pointing to. @cecilehannay this is why RRTMGP is not running out of the box (and also why the tsfc error is triggering). @jedwards4b is this a problem with the sandbox or is beta04 pointing to this older cam tag?

It was decided in the cesm project meeting to expedite a beta04 tag with clm and mom updates and defer cam updates to beta05. beta04 is indeed pointing to cam6_4_032.

@cecilehannay I think we need ATM diagnostics for this run. The baseline should be #17 (run 114), I believe.

@dabail10 I imagine you'll want to run the sea-ice diags as this run is intended to reduce biases in the SO.
