Delighted to see the ability to include snapcast as an output type in MPD with release 0.23. Thank you for the on-going work and development of a brilliant piece of software.

Keen to try this out so I've looked through the Issues and found Snapcast integration · Issue #975 · MusicPlayerDaemon/MPD · GitHub which was closed with commit output/snapcast: new output plugin · MusicPlayerDaemon/MPD@9c8da03 · GitHub.

The documentation was useful but I found I had to explicitly define a format so included a formatand `mixer_type as below...

I stopped snapserverand restarted mpd...

Both are configured to use -p 1704 which is the default for snapcast/snapserver and is how I've configured it under mpd.conf.

If there is any more information I can provide that I've omitted please let me know.

Any suggestions on how to configure this correctly would be gratefully received.

Which snapclient versions are you running on these?
With Zeroconf, you don't need to specify the MPD IP address - snapclient should find it automatically.
I've added a hint about format to the docs, but mixer_type is not necessary.

On the system running mpd(a Raspberry Pi-4b running Arch Linux ARM) and my desktop (Gentoo) I'm running snapcast v0.25.0...

# snapclient --version
snapclient v0.25.0

On the Gentoo system its build with USE=zeroconfflag enabled so it should find it (although I do have it explicitly defined in /etc/conf.d/snapclient. Even with the host explicitly defined it still fails to get any data, despite successfully connecting. That was this chunk of output...

Several clients are Raspberry Pi ZeroW's (also running Arch Linux ARM) and the last version of snapcast I could get to build for them was v0.20.0, attempts to build newer version from source (using the package from AUR) fail.

Thanks for adding the format info to the docs and clarifying that mixer_type isn't required, appreciated.

I don't want to support outdated versions. Maybe between 0.20 and 0.25 there was a bug fix, and we could go and find out, but no matter the outcome, all we'd do is waste our time. Fix the build problems, and most likely the problem will be gone with 0.25. If not, we can talk again.

Fair enough, although the problem occurs with snapcast 0.25 on a client as the following shows, the version is reported on the first line, it connects, but then fails to get any "chunk" of data....

Brilliant, thank you for investigating and resolving so quickly. My apologies for not submitting as an issue I wasn't sure if it was my mis-configuration (as most of my computing problems sit between my keyboard and screen).

Don't worry so much about submitting PEBCAKs as issue. Even if it turns out to be PEBCAK, we can resolve it just as well and close it.

Just a quick note to say I've finally got round to testing and it all works fine. I had to disable snapserver as both it and mpd were trying to use the default port of 1704 but works a treat.
