Toolboxes apparently dont have a material associated with them in the autolathe causing them to be uncraftable.

items which you can print as any material show as they don't have any attached to em as well... its any material in the game that can be fit into an autolathe, the toolbox is one of them. so for example insert 10 mythril and you can print a mythril toolbox (not codediving for the exact numbers) so you just need iron and then click the icon of the toolbox in the autolathe, select the wanted material and click confirm or whatever the button is there to accept or just yes.
