Playing on my Steam Deck, both classic Metal Gear titles display letterboxing ON TOP of the letterboxing that the emulator displays otherwise. I believe it’s caused by the render window not respecting the custom resolution input, while the emulator already exhibits letterboxing of it’s for some reason.
MGSHDFix & Game Version Numbers:
I'm using the latest MGSHDFix version (2.2) and MG1 & 2 release (1.5.0 I believe).
A temporary workaround I found was forcing the game to a 16:9 resolution via Steam properties (with the fix settings at their default values) and then setting scaling mode in the Deck’s performance menu to “Fill.” Still hoping for a better solution.
