This page describes the gameplay in an abstract sense. Most of this will apply both to Rilncraft the MC Mod, and Rilncraft the standalone.

General Flow of Gameplay

  • A user joins a server for the first time
  • This user creates a player character (PC)
    • The user can create multiple PCs
    • The server admin can limit how many can be created
  • The new PC awakens inside a dimly-lit room. Inside their inventory is a level-1 wooden sword, basic field rations, and 100 Riln
  • Upon exiting this room the PC finds themselves in a large castle. This castle is a Safe Zone, where they cannot be harmed.
  • Exploring the castle the PC may encounter other players they can form friendships/alliances with or AI-controlled non-player characters (NPCs)
  • Leaving the castle the player enters the Wilderness, and must fend for themselves gathering resources and fighting monsters
  • As the player explores the world they'll find more castles, villages, and even entrances to large underground labyrinths
  • Eventually the player will encounter powerful boss monsters. These guys are tough, and will require the player to gather lots of resources and teammates to overcome

Ascension and Realms

(Standalone-exclusive feature) The world of Rilncraft is made of several realms. Once all the bosses in a realm are defeated, a portal to the next realm is unlocked. Higher realms spawn stronger monsters, more difficult quests, and better loot/items. Unlike Minecraft, Rilncraft is not infinite in all directions. Eventually a realm will be purged of its best loot and the players forced to ascend higher and higher.
