Connecting to mariadb with PAM auth scheme

Problem The issue I'm having is connecting to a PAM authentication managed Mariadb instance. The message I receive is Unable to load authentication plugin 'dialog'..

Describe the solution you'd like
Switch to the mariadb connector.

This issue has been inactive for half a year. Since JabRef is constantly evolving this issue may not be relevant any longer and it will be closed in two weeks if no further activity occurs.
