Currently, JKI State Machine Editor updates list of states based on case structure list of states - e.g. if one will add/remove state to case structure using "native" case structure menus, then list of states in Editor is updated.
Thus, maybe it could be useful that Editor would detect, that some state was deleted, and then ask user to delete all references of that states - the same behavior, as it does at "Delete Frame" context menu.
Because sometimes, one could forget to use Editor menus for it, remove frame directly via Case Structure means -> but then it will be needed to handle references of the deleted state manually.
