Agenda

Old Business

New Business

  • Review LSAP - "Three institutions" rule for Core creates a difficult barrier for i8 contributions.
    • Reason for discussion: new module, Islandora Repository Reports (Mark Jordan): Provides neat dashboard functions
      • Right now, the rules prevent this module from being an LSAP candidate. We want it, but it's not being used enough to qualify for LSAP. (Current rule requires three active sites using to bring into Core.)
      • Goal: Figure out how to bring contributed modules into the Islandora umbrella when they're too big for a PR. Do we need to loosen the rules?
    • Q: Isn't that what the Labs repository is for?
      • A: Possibly, but this kind of thing we would prefer in Core. Perhaps Labs as a stepping stone is appropriate. Note that nothing has yet been promoted from Labs to Core.
    • Decision: Keep the three-site rule. Use Labs, encourage sites to use it, then bring it into Core when appropriate. (May get it into the release if sufficient usage.)

Interest Group Updates

  • Metadata IG (Danny)

    • Metadata IG joined the Islandora 8 call to discuss a sprint. Mapping from 7.x MODS to Drupal 8 RDF fields is roughly complete, but not yet working in 8.
    • Developers to work with librarians on this; all is doable in the UI, but not smooth.
    • End goal: By the end of the sprint, complete mapping to get all stuff from 7.x will be implemented. This will be a massive fieldset, wrapped up into a "Migrate from 7.x" module which is bootstrapped with Drupal.
    • Timeframe: this summer.
  • ISLE Interest Group (Danny)

    • Big change: new repo called ISLE Build Kit that automatically builds everything, pushes to Docker Hub.
    • Wrapping up final fixes with Nigel - last steps are Cantaloupe, Matomo, and some triplestore issues.
    • Todo: Create a sample repo to demo this, automate site deployment.
    • Next: Big documentation push. "How to do X" is the biggest value/need.

Islandora 8 (Danny)

  • Spent last two weeks completely on ISLE.
  • Lots of things building up that will require attention:
    • Good contributions from Jonathan Hunt, discoverygarden
    • Looking at admin/dashboard stuff - goal is to provide an Islandora-specific admin interface, unify Islandora functions instead of distributing across various Drupal menus.

Islandora Camps

Round Table

  • Amy Blau:
    • Taking over the ICG Rep role.
    • ICG survey about priorities going forward. IR features are high priority. Strong interest in workflow documentation for migration. Strong interest in standard audiovisual viewer. WCAG-2.0-AA standards. Secondary concern: Improving preservation features. Some interest in coordinating with others on job and training related things: job postings for Islandora-specific work, etc.
  • Brandon Weigel: Cloudflare implementation - requires lots of hacking to make it work. Documentation incoming.
  • Bryan Brown: Making progress on move from local servers to AWS/ISLE. Spent time writing script that iterates through Fedora filesystem to find particular items for testing. Running for eight days, just crossed the 1 TB threshold - and that's just the demo package. Working on embargo module, to change your embargoes from config entity to content entity. Need to turn embargo types into Drupal 8 plugins, make the module extensible. Version 1.0 getting close.
  • Daniel Aitken: Making PRs, working with 1.1, plugging away.
  • Don Richards: Working on report and demo for department on what Islandora 8 is. Spinning up AWS demo site, figuring out migration, identifying documentation shortfalls.
  • Janice Banser: Close to finalizing requirements to get SFU's Drupal 6 repository into Islandora 8. Will demo Mark Jordan's reports module next meeting.
  • Jonathan Green: Setting up ISLE containers in ECS, AWS. Will document how to roll out ISLE containers in production when done.
  • Mike Kemezis: Excited Melissa will be giving a talk at their annual meeting. Onboarding a couple of new academic institutions migrating lots of data.
