Good intro documentation to have. Should cover:

  • what's an object look like?
  • does it have a pid?
  • how are datastreams represented/attached?
  • what about display?
  • how are derivatives generated and where are they stored?

And other major differences between the basic structure of 7.x-2.x versus how things worked in the old stack.

Wow, yeah. What a great issue. By doing this, one would have a great understanding of the basics.

Feel free to tag me in a comment to ask for help if you need it.

Maybe we can do some sort of glossary like Fedora did? https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/FEDORA40/Glossary

...or create a big old table of concepts and terms, and map them to what they are in the new project?

Credit to @rosiel for the idea - it comes from the big documentation thread.

Should I push up the draft periodically as I go? I'm filling it out slowly, but I'd like feedback (and review!)

Yeah, if you create a pull request with what you have now, we can comment/review. Then we don't have to merge it, and you can continue to push commits, and the pull request will be updated automatically.
