Script generator: make start more robust and improve diagnostics

Where?

As a developer I would like to be able to start the script generator reliably, so that I can review other script generator tickets.

The script generator often fails to start with no logs and no apparent reason. Fix this so that:

• It starts more reliably
• It logs during it's startup process so that future errors can be diagnosed
