AFAIK, there's no way for us to interact with the Sparkle update framework used in auto-upgrading apps. However, we are working on storing metadata so that all Casks can be upgraded programmatically (auto-upgrading or not).

@rolandwalker is much more qualified to speak on the topic than me, although you may find #4678 helpful on explaining the long list of things that need to be completed first for a reliable and dynamic upgrade function to be implemented.
