I have some questions for scope of carbonQL:

  1. Does this support "real" measurement value? e.g. the value from power meter. If yes, is it in a scope to provide measurement frameworks as a library?
  2. Does it support to export SCI values to somewhere? For example, it is in scope to provide Prometheus exporter?
  3. Have you discussed about the format for input data? I want to follow if it exists.

@YaSuenag
1: Capturing the power meter data falls out of the scope of the CarbonQL. We expect users to capture this data and pass it to the model.
2: The data would be available to be converted into any format. We will provide data into some unified format.
3: The data structure format hasn't been discussed yet.

Please follow this issue for details: #31

Thanks!

I'm very interested in carbonQL, and I'd like to use this with Carbon Aware SDK and with power meter, then I'd like to store / visualize emission data on Prometheus / Grafana.

I understand that carbonQL is in startup phase, but I'm happy if I configure system like in above in near future. I guess you do not have any plan to v0.1 yet, but I'm happy to help/contribute the implementation to realize in above if you need.

Hi @Oleg-Zhymolokhov I have been working on the Carbon Aware SDK as well and am wondering if you (or someone) could help me better understand the difference between these two projects. If you look at the architectural vision for the CA-SDK these two projects feel very similar to me.

Lots of questions come to mind :) Should we consolidate efforts, either up-front or have a roadmap to do so eventually? Are there learnings from the CA-SDK that this project can benefit from? Should the CA-SDK vision be changed to be more specialized given the scope of CarbonQL?

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I think it is better that CASDK would cover all of consideration of carbonQL TBH. I think it is worth to discuss to extend the scope of CASDK.

Discussed in OSS WG. @jawache do you have a follow-up on this? @Oleg-Zhymolokhov mentioned that you would be responding to this.

Suggestion to have a working session between Carbon Aware SDK & CarbonQL teams.

@Oleg-Zhymolokhov mentioned CarbonQL is designing to allow for calculation model to be swapped out - @Willmish mentioned that data providers can be swapped, although the calculation cannot yet be swapped.

Suggestion from @dtoakley @dtoakley-tw to pull out calculation model from Carbon Aware SDK to become first CarbonQL model.

Action: Try to arrange working session between CarbonQL and Carbon Aware SDK teams, in Mural or something else, to identify mutually exclusive and comprehensively exhaustive features.

@dtoakley Love the idea of using carbon aware SDK to be the first carbonQL prototype. Carbon Aware SDK exposes multiple entry points - command line , API etc and we could use of those entry points as well

Note to all, we've had several discussions around this already and I think internally and with the CA SDK team we've had some good sharing of knowledge.

I'm keeping this open as a reminder that after the Phase 1 - POC we'll share the results back to the broader group and this thread to close out this loop.

Hia we've had a few conversations with the OS WG and shared info back. Closing this issue for now.
