Advanced drag-and-drop within the editor

Have you considered adding a more robust drag-and-drop system to the editor itself? So like where you could drag/drop elements to absolutely/relatively position them, that sort of thing? If not, what was your reason for not doing so?

I'm actually building a simple, recursive backend (I think I'm going to call it Yggdrasil (norse for "the tree that connects all things")) that this sits perfectly on top of. Altogether the thing presents a perfect, turing complete system for designing and developing websites.

I was thinking about building it as a Wordpress plug-in. Any details you can fill me in with along these lines?
