Can't add dashboard param with empty string value

When I try to create a dashboard parameter whose value is an empty string, the multibox component shows a grayed-out "default", and the parameter isn't replaced:

Any particular reason why this isn't supported? Any workaround?

No particular reason, and unfortunately no present workaround. Need to add an affordance to distinguish between "I'm not providing a value" and "I'm providing an empty string as a value".
