For those of you who may have wondered and crawled all of the internet to try and figure this out, here it is...
The location of the serveradmin.xml file can be found starting in the sdtdserver home folder. It is a hidden folder called, ".local":
Now that you know why you could never find it, here is the full path:
Now all you need to do to make yourself an admin is to uncomment the line under "users", replace the given ID with YOUR Steam ID and your friendly "gamertag" (for identification purposes only). Here is the default:
e.g. your config file might look something like this (assuming your steam ID is "123456789123456789" and your gamertag is "SteamGamerTag"):
I hope this helps someone. Oh, and if I totally missed this in the documentation, someone please tell me where I missed it because I couldn't find this documented anywhere. It sure would have saved me a lot of time and heartache.
