Rerun Rigid Body 5MW to verify still getting the correct power without FSI #84
Comments
This should be done this week. Might not wait to turn in the report, depending on what Mike says. |
Ganesh will submit this one today (2/28). |
Based on slack, appears that Ganesh is building on frontier, working through timing issues, Marc appeared to have answered this and should be resolved. Speedup really only for large problems with relatively little cross talk. |
This is a fairly small case. Someone else should be able to run this. Neil will take a look at this and see if he can re-run this. There are NREL-5MW cases already available. Re-run what already exists. |
No need to re-run since Ganesh can verify that we're getting the correct power output. Ganesh is nearly done with this. Just going to plot the power and report results. |
I finished and replaced the plot on the report. Rigid predicts the same power as FSI and is lower than the BEM power. |
Need to understand if the RPM or Torque or both are low. - Applying torque control in region II to maximize power (peak CP). Need to match appropriate RPM when run rigid - look back at published paper, choose a wind speed and run with the RPM in that case (9.156 RPM for 8m/s wind speed). Different models may be being used on the aero side that are decreasing drag (xfoil predicts lower drag at low AOA), likely explains difference, new transition model may improve the nalu accuracy.
There is another turbine that does match, but requires full apples to apples comparison including yaw.
Need to verify that without FSI effects we are getting the same results (in region 2), and then with FSI we can talk to why power is lower. One rigid run with current mesh etc and simple confirmation of power.
Should be done as part of milestone submission.
