With multiple implementations (wrapping and now replacing) and users (shadow and pattern) all needing different information, and replace+pattern needing a large number of parameters ( issue #1184 ), the clunky and haphazard current interface is no longer sufficient. This issue covers re-factoring the interface to use a standard data structure to contain malloc information.
