Add automatic check on generated cross-sections

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
We currently rely on human intuition to visually check generated cross-sections. This has led to issues where difficult-to-spot problems are overlooked. Specifically very wide cross-sections compared to surrounding cross-sections. Suggestion to implement an automatic check on some benchmarks.

Describe the solution you'd like
After generated the cross-section, perform a sanity check. Start with checking the width, potentially add more checks later. Report to user.
