Stop auto-closing when you select an item?

Is there a way to stop it removing the words you have typed in when selecting? See example:

I typed "information", and I wanted to select the item, and then also select another item from the list. But it removes what I typed. Any suggestions on how to approach this? The example given is simple - but sometimes I will type something and need to select 10-20 items, so I'm trying to save having to type it over and over and over =)

I'd say use CTRL as a modifier. This is often used for multi-select elements, in this case holding it down could prevent closing the dropdown allowing for multiple select?
