Need help with my bad internet connection #2472
Comments
Hello there 👋 Please respond as soon as possible if a Pi-Apps maintainer requests more information from you. Stale issues will be closed after a lengthy period of time with no response. |
These are simply internet errors on your end or with your ISP (internet service provider). |
Could you poke around in the ~/pi-apps/logs folder and attach some wine install failure logs so we can see the errors directly? Thanks. |
@theofficialgman oh :/ any advice for manually downloading the failing file and running the script around that? |
@baboeska, that does seem unusual. Please try clicking on this link using your Raspberry Pi's web browser. https://github.com/Pi-Apps-Coders/files/releases/download/large-files/wine-8.17.tar.gz |
@Botspot will do, downloading now. Not sure how much data Firefox-esr will show re a failed download but I can hope. |
Hmm download failed in Firefox-esr. |
Try this:

almost an HOUR to download a 370MB file? that is just 1 mbps.... that is like the lowest tier DSL speed. I am pretty sure the "authorization failed" messages have to do with github only authenticating a download for a particular period of time. if it takes you longer than that time to download your client has to re-request authentication. It is also possible your internet equipment is just crap and dies occasionally due to the constant load for an hour. My advice would be to change internet providers or pay for a higher tier. 1mbps is not suitable for really anything in 2023. |
also since your bad connection seems to do better with |
I tried again and it for some random reason, ended up working and I now have Wine x64 installed on Armbian Pi, with ability to play Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri to some extent, and Close Combat: Last Stand Arnhem, without indeo videos, two of the greatest strategy games ever made. |
well sorry to let you know that I just pushed wine-8.18 (up from 8.17) since the box64 bug that prevented it from functioning has been solved... guess you have another hour download to do 😆 ofc you get to decide when you update so you don't have to update now. wine 8.19 should release friday or saturday and I will build and upload it then assuming no issues. |

https://github.com/Pi-Apps-Coders/files/releases/download/large-files/wine-8.17.tar.gz download fails, installer fails
Description
During the install stage, the download of "https://github.com/Pi-Apps-Coders/files/releases/download/large-files/wine-8.17.tar.gz" fails authentication at approx 350mb in out of 372mb, and the installer does not complete from there.
It one time brute forced through and then failed on downloading winetricks.
What are your system specs (run the following command in your terminal)?
