Can't move a note #682

Current behavior

It's possible I'm missing something, but I can't seem to move a note anymore. Dragging and dropping doesn't do anything, and the icon in the top left corner of a note lets me navigate but doesn't move the note. In both cases there are no errors in the console. I'm not sure when this started.

Expected behavior

I believe dragging and dropping a note used to work. I read some comments online that clicking on the top left icon might be the way to do it but I never used that before, so I don't know if that applies to BoostNote.next or only the old version.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Try to drag and drop a note in the sidebar onto a folder in the sidebar. No variations of this seem to work (clicking on the icon or the note title, and dropping onto a closed folder or onto another note in an open folder). True for all notes whether they are currently in the root of the workspace or in a folder already.
  2. There is no dragging animation and nothing happens. No errors in the console.

Environment

Desktop/Web

  • Boost Note.next version: Version 0.10.2
  • OS version and name: macOS Mojave

Hi,

Can you let me know of the mode you are in? (file->preferences->general->AppMode)
Is it Note, or Wiki mode?

When mentioning sidebar do you mean list of notes from currently opened folder? Or Wiki app mode where notes are shown in preview with folders.

For latter, I don't think dragging is supported (don't work for me either). If you are in Note App Mode, you should be able to drag'n'drop the note from within note list into some folder/subfolder.

Can you give me some screenshot as how this (even better gif snippet of actions you are trying) looks like - since I am on linux and not sure how all this looks in macOS.

Nevertheless if this is something like this #349 I think it will be soon supported.
Since in Wiki mode notes are similarly rendered, rearanging folders might be used for notes too.

Thanks, that was the issue. I had noticed a change in the sidebar with an update, but didn't know I could change it back. Did Wiki mode become the default? I also wonder if this setting might be better under the View menu, because I did look there and didn't see anything relevant. Anyway, thanks for your help.

Yes, I think it's default mode if you skip choosing it after update.

As for menu, there is also an feature request / work being done on putting things into it's perspective menu items (this one for start: #350), for now thou, it's all under preferences.

No problem, if you have any other questions, please do ask.

I can not find this option any longer.

I am unable to move folders with drag'n'drop either and I remember there was an option with 'Wiki'. However, I am unable to find it.

Any pointers?

Yes, because note mode is discarded, soon there will be option to move notes and folders in wiki mode too.

So it is currently impossible to move notes or folders into different folders?
I'll gladly wait for that feature ; ).

Yes, unfortunately. The implementation of drag and drop in Wiki mode is already here, but still waiting for review, and once merged it will be released in the upcoming boost note version, you can check it out here: #889.
