Pipewire is able to handle MIDI. With #99 the JACK backend works with pipewire-jack, so there's no urgent need for this, but it would be nice.

I have never heard about Pipewire. Can you explain a little bit in what cases this would be useful?

Pipewire is the next generation audio and video server for Linux which is replacing both PulseAudio and JACK. Pipewire reimplements both the PulseAudio and JACK APIs as well as has its own new API with more features. Like JACK, Pipewire can route MIDI between hardware and applications.
