animation delay not working if this line removed "var spanEl = _thisEl.outerWidth()"

when you look at the source code, find "useless" , u will be directed to "var spanEl = _thisEl.outerWidth()" line.
Download the source file and remove the above line and run index.html in the browser, animation effect which is working perfectly fine , will not work.
