No Virtual Machines tab on GUI with Hypervisor selected - only the Chat tab

The FAQ mentions this issue and correctly identifies faulty vcard setup as the most likely cause.
After installing from the nightlies and following the Wiki pages it appears that the despite the [VCARD] settings being correct (as per the notes in the conf file itself) the install scripts are failing to deploy defaulthypervisor.png into /var/lib/archipel/avatars directory and this is a further dependency that prevents the GUI rendering any tab other than just Chat.
