There is a continuous request to explain go 5G Broadcast and 5G unicast would be supported in commercial devices and whether and 3GPP specification updates would be needed and whether there are other restrictions.
Suggested solution description
We are convinced that the solution will be made available in commercial devices using the same technologies that allow one to use two sim cards concurrently. 3GPP even has developed a specification under the umbrella MUSIM to have a standardized solution. We are convinced that no changes to 3GPP specifications are sufficient, but a consistent implementation guidelines with recommendations for content providers and receivers is needed. An update to ETSI TS 103 720 is needed and we will prepare a proposed CR-
Alternative solutions
It was considered to address this in 3GPP with part of a Rel-19 work item. We believe this would be lost time and resources and is not needed as no new 3GPP specs are needed.
Additional context
This functionality is currently not supported in test devices and hence it is causing some head scratching. It is important to understand how the functionality could be tested.
